Preview of tonight's Coronation Street - Weds 17 Jan

Wednesday 17th January
GARY POINTS THE ACCUSING FINGER AT PHELAN Anna calls Gary from prison and tells him that Eileen has taken Phelan’s side again and her only hope is Seb. Having been tipped off by Nicola, Gary finds Abi and Seb in a café. Gary implores Seb to help Anna but Seb’s scared witless and reveals that Phelan killed Luke and he’s worried he could be next. Stunned Gary reports Phelan to the police for the murder of Luke. Eileen’s suspicions are reignited as the police take Phelan in for questioning.
EVA’S SHOCK TURNS TO HORROR Toyah confides in Eva that she’s not just angry about the vodka, but Peter’s been acting strangely for weeks and she reckons he’s hiding something. Meanwhile Eva goes for a dating scan. She’s in shock as she tells Shona that she’s 17 weeks pregnant but who is the daddy?
BETHANY BREAKS CRAIG’S HEART ALL OVER AGAIN Craig calls at the lap dancing club and interrupts Bethany mid-dance, telling her that he’s reached a decision
ELSEWHERE As Billy works with his physio he’s told he can go home tomorrow, Billy’s sad he’s nothing to go home to. Eileen reveals that Todd’s been in touch with Jason to say he and Summer are fine. As Sean hands over the lingerie samples to Aidan, he’s horrified to see they’ve been deliberately damaged. Hope tells Sean that Ruby was responsible. Simon’s sorry not sorry.

Wednesday 17th January
GARY IS DRIVEN TO DESPERATE MEASURES The police question Phelan who lies that he was alone at No.11 when Luke was shot. Back at home Phelan tells Eileen it was just a routine enquiry. Relieved, Eileen confesses she had her fears as Seb told her he murdered Luke. She admits searching for a gun and going to see Anna in prison. Phelan’s furious. Having summoned Seb, Gary locks him in Tim’s cab, imploring him to testify at Anna’s hearing and tell the court the truth about Phelan. Will Seb agree?
EVA STRUGGLES WITH HER SECRET Eva confides in Shona that she’s not sure she’s ready for a baby. Eva calls in the pub with the intention of sharing her news with Leanne but Simon’s behaviour proves too much of a distraction.
CRAIG CAN’T LIVE WITH OR WITHOUT BETHANY As Craig leaves the club, worried Bethany makes him promise not to breathe a word to her family. Sarah confides in Craig that she’s worried about Bethany. Craig suppresses the urge to tell her the truth but assures Sarah he’ll look after her.
ELSEWHERE When Tyrone finds out about Sean’s ruined samples, he demands to know what’s going on. Hope blames Ruby who denies any involvement. Tyrone confides in Sean that this is just the latest incident involving Ruby and he’s at his wit’s end.
Smarting over Eileen’s lack of trust, Phelan suggests he’ll move into Billy’s flat so a convalescing Billy can stay with Eileen. Eileen asks Adam and Eva to help with Billy’s care till he’s mobile. Adam agrees through gritted teeth.

Simon Gregson and Cookie star in Britain's Favourite Dogs

Tonight on ITV, Simon Gregson and his little dog Cookie feature in Britain’s Favourite Dogs: Top 100.  As we know, Simon plays Steve McDonald in Coronation Street and Cookie plays, er, Rover.

It's a one-off special hosted by Ben Fogle and Sara Cox that reveals the nation’s favourite dog breeds, and features a host of famous faces sharing their ‘tails’ of living with man’s best friend.

“Cookie is not like any Jack Russell you’ll ever meet,” says Simon. “She’s very soft and gentle, and lets the kids do anything to her. She’s my shadow around the house, to the point that I’ve nearly broken my neck several times, tripping over her.

“Lucy (Simon's other dog) on the other hand, is true to form for a Yorkie. She’s loud, yappy and very protective. She also has smelly breath, and sleeps all day – unless a horse, person, bird, plane, car or fly comes within a hundred yards of the house, in which case she wants to kill!”

“Lucy and Cookie give unconditional love,” says Simon. “Sleeping on the settee with them under each arm is a very nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon…and Monday to Saturday as well!”

Mikey North interview: Gary discovers Bethany's lapdancing secret

Does Gary have any suspicions that Bethany has been trying to keep him and Sarah apart?
Gary thinks that Sarah is just ignoring him and rightly so, he’s not got a leg to stand on. It’s a genuine thing that he doesn’t suspect anything.

Why does Gary follow Bethany?
Gary is chatting to Tim on the street and the girl who had been chatting him up at the Rovers go past in a car. Gary sees the girl is with Bethany and immediately thinks that something isn’t right but he’s not sure what. He follows the car to the lapdancing club.

What’s Gary’s first thoughts when he realises that Bethany is working there?
He is shocked, he is not expecting to see her there and the last thing he expects is to see her dancing! It’s a big surprise when he walks in and sees her scantily clad.

Tell us what happens next.
Gary tries to get Bethany to come home but she doesn’t like that and wants to stay. Bethany calls the bouncer to step in and he does so in a quite forceful way. Gary tries to resist a little bit which doesn’t help… the bouncer goes to town on him.

How badly hurt is Gary?
He is really smashed up, he is badly, badly beaten up. It’s the last thing that he needs with everything else going on.

What is Craig’s reaction when he sees that Gary has been beaten up?
Craig is surprised, he doesn’t even want to let on that he knows Gary at first but then he runs over and tries to help.

What happens then?
Gary goes to hospital ad Sarah comes to see him which is nice for Gary and unexpected for him to see her there. Sarah apologies that Gary is always getting beaten up because of her family - there’s a little bit of a moment there where things soften slightly.

Do you think that Sarah should forgive Gary? Do you think that they are a good match?
It is a tricky one because I love Sarah and Gary together and working with Tina O’Brien and The Platts has turned my time around at Coronation Street. But how can you forgive someone who has done what Gary has done, it is an inexcusable thing. So it’s tough but, for me, it’s great that they may get back together…

What were the fight scenes with the bouncer like to film?
I remember a time when Gary used to give out the beatings but now he seems to be taking them! I have done a few fights down the years now playing the character that I play but I enjoy doing the fight scenes. And it takes time in makeup to put Gary’s battle scars on, the initial beatings took 45 minutes every morning. So less of a lie-in for me but the makeup team did a great job.

What has been the viewers reaction about Gary and Sarah’s relationship? Did you get a lot of people reacting to when Gary cheated with Nicola?
You can’t cheat on Sarah Louise Platt, nobody would do that, but Gary doesn’t do things the normal way. It’s great because people seem to love Gary and Sarah together which is a compliment and it’s nice that we might be working together again. It is a shame that the perfect romance was spoilt but it gives us a great branch of other storylines so it has been good.

What advice would you give Gary in this situation?
Don’t do it again!

Coronation Street spoiler: New character Josh arrives

The previews are in for next week’s Coronation Street and handsome newcomer Josh arrives at the garage to apply for the mechanic’s job.

Josh gets the job at Webster’s autos and suggests a charity boxing match in memory of Luke.

In what may well turn out to be a completely unrelated storyline, Josh is the name of the man who will rape David Platt, it was revealed last month. It could be a different Josh, of course, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Coronation Street spoiler: Adam drugs Billy

The previews are in for next week’s Coronation Street and Adam has a plan to bring Billy down.

As Billy busies himself helping out at the community centre, he is suddenly wracked with pain and collapses on the floor. It’s Adam who finds Billy there and masking his delight he helps Billy back into his wheelchair, telling Billy he can get his hands on some stronger painkillers.

Playing the caring friend, Adam calls at No. 11. With Billy out, Adam swaps Billy’s strong painkillers for ordinary paracetamol. Wincing in pain, Billy takes a couple of painkillers, unaware they’re only paracetamol. Adam watches, pleased that his plan is coming together.

Coronation Street spoiler: Anna faces the moment of truth

The previews are in for next week’s Coronation Street and Anna’s trial draws to a close.

Next week, Roy will be called as a witness where he gives Anna a glowing character reference but is forced to admit that she did slap Seb in the café.

When Tim is called as a witness he’s forced to admit that he and Gary encouraged Seb to change his story. Anna’s heart sinks whilst Phelan looks like the cat who’s got the cream. As the judge sums up the case what will be the verdict?

Meanwhile, Phelan is stunned when Nicola calls at the builder’s yard telling Phelan how sorry she is for disbelieving him and begs his forgiveness. Then Nicola apologises to Eileen for not standing up for her dad when he was innocent all alone. And Phelan is thrilled to find out he’s got the Site Manager job at the old mill project.
